Axit's Copper terminal interface: indexed files, disk usage, inspection and keyboard or mouse actions
The real terminal interface, shown with temporary sample files. Keyboard, mouse and touchpad supported.

a little sharper

Your disk.
A little clearer.

01 / find

The fast part.

Search indexed names, paths, file types, sizes and ages. Page through every match with keyboard or mouse. Live results stay out of the UI thread.

02 / understand

Follow the space.

A clickable storage map shows the big folders at a glance. Dive into a tile, inspect files and keep free disk space separate from indexed estimates.

03 / axit

You get the last word.

Clear confirmation, with Cancel selected first. Review Trash, moves and verified cache cleanup. Undo reversible moves. Automatic cleanup starts off.

keep your place

Update a folder.
Keep moving.

Refresh selected paths without rebuilding the base index. Browse while it runs, cancel when needed, and keep your focus when the new snapshot arrives. In the terminal: r updates a folder; R runs a full scan.

Updates are explicit and bounded. Automatic filesystem watching is still in development.

apps, without the leftovers

Make room.
Keep what matters.

A dedicated Apps view reviews application bundles and their related files. Personal data stays unchecked. Homebrew and Flatpak handle managed installation and removal with their own prompts.

ready when you are

Install. Open. Find.

No account. No Rust toolchain for release installs. No background service.

curl -fsSL https://axit.sh/install.sh | sh

Then run axit. The installer checks SHA-256 and installs to ~/.local/bin. It preserves preferences and does not scan or delete user files.

can find things, too.

MCP exposes scoped search, browsing, refresh and plans. Background index jobs report progress and support cancellation. Mutations are disabled by default. The ACP adapter supports deterministic metadata commands without running a language model.

What does Axit read?

The index stores file metadata and names. Apps reads application manifests and native package metadata; it never launches a discovered app or executes a desktop launcher. It does not index file contents, follow symlinks or scan other mounted filesystems. Access failures are counted and visible in Activity.

What can it clean?

Recognized generated caches with ownership, age, Git, activity and protected-content checks. Whole Rust target directories and release profiles are preserved. Trash and moves use a reviewed plan; permanent cache cleanup is clearly labeled.

Does it run automatically?

Automatic cleanup is off by default. Opt-in rules need explicit folders and apply age, size, free-space and cooldown limits. No background service is installed automatically.

What about macOS privacy permissions?

Grant your terminal Full Disk Access to include protected locations. Administrator access alone does not remove macOS privacy restrictions. Axit reports gaps in coverage.

I used SCRY. Is my index still here?

Yes. Axit reuses the previous private store when no Axit store exists, including the index, preferences and undo journal. Legacy configuration variables and MCP tool names remain accepted.

File mutations require lsof; scans and search work without it. Folder totals can overlap, and indexed sizes need refreshing after changes.
